Its been a busy couple of years for me and so I’ve had to prioritise.
After I passed my FI(R) test most of my spare time was taken up with flying instruction and anything left over I tried to fit in some of my other hobbies and also of course some family time. Plus, I haven’t really been anywhere to talk to you all about, as I’ve been taking off, flying a circuit and landing, and repeating… alright that’s a slight exaggeration, but almost all of my flying has been instructional, and so whilst I’ve had some interesting “moments”, I haven’t really thought it fair to write about them.
I’ve also rediscovered my love affair with the very very high skies after many years..
Space!
Over the winter I started doing a bit of Astronomy for the first time in decades and I also took the plunge and decided it was time to go back to school, well, uni. So at the beginning of September I began an Open University degree in Physics.
All of that has meant I haven’t written on this blog for some time. However, I’m hoping that I may be able to get back to bringing some content to you now (those of you that are still here that is) including book reviews, flying articles, probably a bit of space commentary (I’ll come back to that shortly), lesson’s learned plus reviews of any trips etc. and other flying content I think you might like.
As mentioned above I’m also learning a lot about space, the solar system and space systems. So I may also post the odd article on those topics as its an area that fascinates me and I know a lot of you will also be interested in the new ‘space race’ and what is going on there. In fact just recently I went to the national student space conference where I got to fly the Soyuz simulator and dock with the ISS, this was good fun and I highly recommend it – I may do a more in depth piece on this conference in the near future.

I’ve also recently been down to Enstone to see the new Mk26b Spitfires they are building there and whilst there I flew their Spitfire simulator, so look out for a piece on that trip too.
So, if you are still here, and would like to read about anything in particular, please feel free to drop me a line at danroachauthor@outlook.com to let me know what you would like to see here.
Still here! I’ve always been fascinated by space and now that the UK has its own fledgling space programme, I’m following companies like Virgin Orbit (who are unfortunately struggling after a failed launch), Orbex, ABL, SaxaVord and skyrora. I hope to somehow become involved in the UK’s vertical space launch industry or at least see one lift off from UK soil very soon. Can’t wait.
