I first saw this book trailed on my Twitter feed in early June and immediately put it on my ‘to-read’ list and ordered the paperback version. For those with short attention spans, I guess the executive summary would be that it’s definitely towards the top end of the aviation autobiographies I’ve read, and certainly the best one I’ve read in a very long time.
From the opening, “Mandy, break right,” where the author describes the emotion she felt whilst manoeuvring a multi-million-pound RAF Tornado to avoid an interface with the missile that was being fired at her, through the story of her lifelong passion for flying, via the story of her RAF career, this book is a must read for anyone who is interested in flying.
Mandy is a ground-breaking, glass-ceiling smashing pilot who has shown that with hard work, dedication and commitment, you can achieve your dreams, male or female. The story is extremely well told and I struggled to put it down, which is not something I can say for all the books I read.
In summary I’d say buy it. You won’t regret it.
